Sat 25th/Sun 26th March - Kirkstile Inn Social & Grasmoor Walk

A full description will be added soon but as it stands the plan is to get dinner at the famous Kirkstile Inn near Loweswater on Saturday evening. This will be followed by a walk up Grasmoor on the Sunday. People are more than welcome to come to both or just one, although people are responsible for finding their own accommodation in the area on Saturday night should they require it. I will be booking a table for 10 in January, once these spaces have been claimed I cannot guarantee it will be possible to add to this booking.

Starting Point: Buttermere (exact location TBA)

Car Parking: There are plenty of car parking options in Buttermere - National trust, pay & display and off road laybys.

Description: Grasmoor is an imposing fell that dominates the landscape of the North Western fells, where it is the tallest of the group.

Route: Starting in Buttermere we head out of the village to join the path that takes us up to Whiteless Pike. The ridge climbs past this Wainwright up to the higher peak of Wandope. Having paused to enjoy the fantastic view from the summit the path takes us toward the back of Grasmoor. It is a short ascent up to the plateau on top. Our descent is initially steep but easily navigable and soon the gradient flattens as we drop down toward Crummock water. The final part of our journey takes us along the small valley down the side of Rannerdale Knotts back to Buttermere.

This is an unreccied route.
Starting from Cow Bridge car park walk along the A592 and branch off to Low Hartsop.  Bear right on a track following the wall that rises steeply to the ridge of Hartsop Dodd then head left towards the summit.  Continue to follow the line of the wall to Caudale Moor (also known as Stoney Cove Pike), the highest point of the walk at 764m.  Here again follow the wall leading west to Mark Atkinson's Monument before branching right to head down the north west ridge above Caudale Beck and quarry.  A short walk along the main road leads to a track heading to the main path back along Brotherswater and back to the cars.
Hopefully there should be some grand views of Ullswater and Windemere if it's a clear day.
Some of this route may be on lesser walked and unmarked paths.
9.15am meet time for 9.30am start
Car parking at at Cow Bridge (free) or alternatively up the road at Low Hartsop (also free).

Sun 5th March - Scafell Pike from Seathwaite

Leader: Mel

Car Parking: Seathwaite NY236123 (free parking on lane)

Start / Finish: End of the lane at Seathwaite, at the farm entrance.

Meet Time: 8.45am

Start Time: 9.00am

Route:  A circular walk up the highest peak in England starting from Seathwaite.
From the start follow the path up the valley to Stockley Bridge then continue alongside Grains Gill then up the steepening path beside the ravine of Ruddy Gill.  Joining the main path connecting Langdale and Wasdale head left to Esk Hause then curve round Calf Cove.  With a small detour up to Great End (for those who are ticking Wainwrights), retrace the route back to the main path continuing ever upwards towards Broad Crag before dropping steeply to a col and then up to the summit of Scafell Pike itself.  Hopefully it will be a clear day and the panoramic views of the highest peak can be appreciated.  Descending to Lingmell Col take the Corridor Route to Styhead Tarn then follow Styhead Gill back down to Stockley Bridge and retrace the path to the cars.

It may well still be wintry conditions up top at the start of March so please bring appropriate kit, including a headtorch (though the plan is to be down before dark).

Distance: 9.5miles

Time: 7 - 8 hours depending on breaks

Grade: Strenuous
